For anyone who doesn’t speak nine-ball, a golden break is when the nine drops on the break and you take the rack before your opponent ever gets to the table. Instant win, no drama, pure grin. We named the shop after it because that’s exactly the feeling we want you to have every single time you deal with us.
The story starts on St. Patrick’s night, 2023, at a little room called The Corner Pocket in Williamsburg, Virginia. Chingas had just moved down from New Jersey, wandered in, picked up a cue, and got well and truly hooked all over again. One league turned into three teams, three teams turned into captaining them, and somewhere in there he and Kam built Entropy — a ten-month tournament tour that funnels down to December’s Paragon Cup. These days he also runs a USAPL ten-ball league. We didn’t arrive at billiards through a business plan — we got here the honest way: table time, six and seven nights a week, for years.
Which is really how Golden Break was born. When you’re at the hall that often, people start asking. Where can I get this? What do you make of carbon fiber? Have you tried Kielwood? Night after night, the same great questions — and the same frustrating answer: there was nowhere good to send anybody. No real billiards shop within reach, just a scatter of faceless websites. So on July 17, 2024, the three of us decided to become the answer.
That’s the whole team: Chingas, Greg, and Kam. First names only, because we’re not a corporation wearing a friendly mask — we’re three guys who’ve shot on the same team. Chingas runs the tech, the site, the brand relationships, and every order that goes out the door (he rebuilt his first computer from parts at thirteen). Greg handles the unglamorous, deeply important half — the filings and paperwork that keep a real business real. And Kam is the one out on the road, youngest of the three, logging tournament miles and shaking hands. A couple of us have even played ten-ball in Vegas after winning our way there. We are, in every honest sense, our own customers.
Here’s what Golden Break is, and what it isn’t. We stock production cues, cases, and an almost embarrassing wall of accessories — chalk, gloves, shaft conditioner, cue holders, racks, balls, whole tables, even trick-shot card decks. What we don’t do, at least not yet, is the rarefied world of the custom cue makers. We’re bootstrapped and honest about it. That day may come. For now, we’re built for three people.
The first is the one who got burned — who ordered online once, got something wrong or slow or careless, and quietly gave up. We’d love a shot at balancing that scale. The second is the brand-new player — we’re teachers at heart, and we’ll happily steer you around the potholes we already stepped in. And the third is the league regular, the steady heartbeat of every room, who could buy his chalk anywhere but chooses to buy it from someone who knows his name.
